Spring 2020

Gamelan Encantada will present a concert on Saturday March 21 at 7pm at the UNM College of Fine Arts Downtown Studio, 113 Fourth St NW (& Copper), with a suggested donation of $10 at the door. The program is in honor of Barbara Benary, a prominent composer, ethnomusicologist and instrument builder, who passed away last March.

Barbara was a founding member of the experimental music composer’s collective Gamelan Son of Lion based in NYC, and holds a special place in our hearts as the person who designed and built our instruments, and encouraged us to establish a similar type of group in NM.

In addition to works by Benary, we will be performing pieces by other GSOL composers, Philip Corner, David Demnitz and Daniel Goode.

Please join us for this very special concert and celebrate Barbara’s legacy and the continuing power of gamelan to engage musicians, composers and listeners everywhere.

This concert was canceled, but you can listen to it in rehearsal. A copy of the program is also included here.
